Here's something really cool, that just popped up on our viewscreen thanks to longtime Subspace Communique friend Starfleetmom. IDW Publishing & DC Comics Team Up For Crossover Comic "Star Trek / Legion Of Superheroes"

In it's first ever crossover comic series with DC Comics, IDW publishing (the current Star Trek comic licensee) will team up with the Superman / Batman publisher to produce a unique comic series featuring the original crew of The Enterprise and The Legion of Superheroes. Set in an alternate universe Kirk & and his crew will beam down to a planet only to discover that the planet isn’t their intended destination, or even in the right universe. At the same time, a group of “Great Darkness Saga” Legionnaires inside a time sphere find themselves cast into the 23rd century, but it’s not the 23rd century as they know it, either. The new comic will see both teams pulling together to fight Klingons, Khunds, Borg, and similar nasty and evil elements that the alternate universe can conjure. The egalitarian United Planets in one universe and a United Federation of Planets in another is now the Imperial Planets of Terra, a dark empire focused on war and conquest, and that’s just the beginning for the series.
“Nothing like kicking off our first foray into the DC Universe with a story that spans dimensions and centuries,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief and the lead editor on this crossover. “As a huge fan of both of these teams and the eras we’re playing with here, as well as an admirer of the talents involved with this tale, I couldn’t be happier. ”CONTINUE READING >>

Spotify Has Star Trek Soundtracks And We've Got Invitations To Give Out!

So, the new craze on the interwebs seems to be this new-fangled service called Spotify. It's similar to other available services like Rdio & MOG, but from our experience has much better selections of titles. Unfortunately for now, Spotify is invite only. We've been waiting a long time for the service to jump the pond from Europe and it was well worth the wait. If your not familiar with Spotify; it's a music streaming service that allows you to pick the tracks / albums / artists that you want to listen to as well as create and share playlists. Users can register either for free accounts supported by ads or for paid subscriptions without ads and with a range of extra features like higher bitrate streams and offline access to music. Science Channel Partnering With Rod Roddenberry To Air "Trek Nation" Documentary

Trek Nation, the long anticipated documentary by Rod Roddenberry is headed to the Science Channel. We've been reporting on the doc for sometime and it's great to hear that all Trek fans, alike, will be able to get an inside look at the Roddenberry family and legacy. As reported by TV Guide, Science Channel is partnering with Rod to air the doc which he describes as "a journey to discovery who my father is... The man behind the myth".
"He's got the keys to the Roddenberry treasure of never-before-seen footage," says the channel's general manager, Debbie Myers. Adds executive producer Bernadette McDaid: "There's footage of Gene's wedding, which has never been seen, as well as footage from the first-ever Star Trek convention... we helped them take this treasure trove and shape it into a two-hour narrative. This is the ultimate first-hand testimony."
Rod explains talks about the journey of making Trek Nation; "My father passed away when I was 17. I was a rebellious kid, and he was more of an authority figure than a father. I didn't understand Star Trek until he passed away... but then I went to Star Trek conventions, and talked to people, and eventually became so proud of the name 'Roddenberry.'"
Trek Nation will air on Science in OctoberCONTINUE READING >>

For Austin Trek Fans, Master Pancake STAR TREK MOCK VI: UHURA VS TROI Tuesday July 26th

For Trek fans in the Austin, TX area; a local favorite, Master Pancake, is set to premiere the sixth iteration of their popular Star Trek debates/TV parties. Because they can’t agree on which is the best iteration of the show (JOHN is a fan of original Star Trek; JOE loves Next Generation) they’ll be showing – and mocking – one episode of each.
Past formats have included Kirk vs Picard, Spock vs Data and Old Klingons vs New Klingons. This time around they’ll be pitting Lt. Uhura against Deanna Troi to see who is the "least-uselesss scantily-clad communications facilitator on the bridge".
We'll be there to soak in the Pancake goodness! If you see us bouncing around, be sure to stop and ask for Subspace Communique stickers. Check out more details and order tickets here.CONTINUE READING >>
